Hi there,

I am the proud (... Laughing ) owner of a 1986 BX GT
Foto-EZ6F3KMZ.jpg

This car is at this moment in a pretty sad shape, but is about to be a roadcruiser again.

Some pics to show the today shape:

Under the bonnet all is quite well, only the carburettor is broken.
The plan is to swap the inletmanifold to one from a 1900 multipoint injection (D6A engine) This should be able with a 159A engine. The engine itself has run 159000 km’s and is in good shape. Same goes for the clutch and the gearbox.
The interior of the car will be fitted in type 2 GTi trim. This means a lot of overhauling, but it will be worthwile. At the end the car will tecnically be a 1986 BX GTi, fitted with a type 1 nose. And a little less horsepower.

To-do list:

Subframe swap
Rust cleaning and conservation
Interior
Inlet manifold
And many more…

Planning at this time is to have the car up and running again in spring 2011.
Meanwhile I’ll keep you all informed!

By the way, I’m looking for a donor in color-code EVEcR (Gris Perlé)
A 19 TRS or TZI would be great…

As a MK1 GT is much rarer than a MK2 of any type why change it and just be one of the herd 16v wheels and rear spoiler next?? Just buy a MK2 instead.

If you swop the front subframe to a later type you get the inferior suspension too!

I need to swap the front subframe because the one under the car is rotten.
I do agree that a type 1 Gt is becoming rare. However, keeping the chassis on the road means that there is still another type 1 not being wrecked. Maybe in the future it is possible to rebuild it to original specs.
At least I want to be able to drive the car again - and the stuff present happens to be type 2.

And welcome to this forum! Hope you’ll enjoy. Cool

Hey Hilko, nice to see you here!  Very Happy I’ve actually never seen a topic of your GT on the dutch forum, now I can finally see the pics. But are you really going to change the interior too? Swapping the seats should be sufficient, shouldn’t it? Or has the original type 1 dash broken down?  Confused

Nice to see you too! Cool

The interior and most of the dash pieces are sold due to the idea of wrecking the car. Rebuilding it in type 2 trim could be seen as Plan B Cool

And why haven’t you ever seen the topic on the dutch section? It is quite in top of the Bx-section these days…

Well, I’ve been busy at work lately, so I don’t check the forum on a daily basis, apart from the topics on which I took a subscription. So I just missed the Dutch topic. I have found it now, 17 pages to read. I’ll be busy for a while….. Laughing

@ tim leech: a very goog reason to keep an old car from 1986 or older on the road in The Netherlands is that it will be classified as a classic car, and consequently will be free of roadtax. A fine example: someone may take a Range Rover from 1975, and put a body of a 1993 model on it to have a “modern” car on a taxfree basis.  Wink

I have to agree with earlier comment about the scarcity of the GT. They were a fast mover and very few of them remain. In this part of the world there is very seldom a GT to be found. I would do my utmost to try and retain its originality. But I also understand the delema of wanting the car back on the road.

Here in Holland there are not that many GT’s left either.
However, I want to drive the car next year.
I know it is a pity that the car will not be an original GT, but to me most important is that the car is in a good technical shape. I don’t really give much about the looks.
