Are you driving to the 15th ICCCR from Mainland Europe?

If you are planning to cross to England via the ferries to Dover and other ferry ports in Kent or via Euro Tunnel, consider the following:

The journey from Dover to Pickering is 300 ml/500 Km
This is between 5 and 7 hours driving EACH WAY (7 hours for a Traction).
This costs (as at May 2010):

- Fuel  £66/€78 EACH WAY (£1.22/€1.44 per Litre, £5.50/€6.48 per gallon/4.5 litres @ 25ml/40Km per gallon, 11.25 litres per 100Km).

- Accommodation - EACH WAY Either stop in Calais/Bulogne/Dieppe/Ostende/Dunkirk and get the early morning ferry or stop in Dover/Folkstone/Cantebury and make an early start = £50.00/€80 for a “Travelodge” type hotel (http://www.travelodge.co.uk/?gclid=CLXm4Nqi-KECFSJl4wodrnsVCw ) or you could camp.

- Ferry (From £25/€30 (Dunkirk to Dover with Norfolk Lines) to £63/€75 via EuroTunnel (these are EACH WAY prices) See: http://www.ferrycheap.com/

- Driving Time: 7 hours on UK motorways (M20/M25/M1 and/or A1(M) - Cost: “Priceless”* (Trust me!)

Alternatives:

Drive to Zeebrugge (B) or Rotterdam (NL) and take the P&O Overnight Crossing to Hull.

The journey from Calais to Zeebrugge is 80 ml/120Km and from Hull to Pickering is 40ml/60Km. Total 120Ml/180Km. Total driving time = 2.5 hours.

On the ferry you get:
- a 2 or 4 berth cabin with en-suite Shower & WC.
- cruise boat rather than a cross channel ferry
- 12 hour overnight crossing
- arrival in Hull at 08:00am (refreshed)
- a relaxing start/end to your holiday

This costs from £130/€153* EACH WAY (May 2010 Price) with P&O ferries (see http://www.poferries.com).

We are currently in discussion with P&O regarding a discount for all ICCCR visitors (however this is not expected to be more than 15%).

DFDS ( http://www.dfdsseaways.co.uk/ferry_crossings/ferry_crossings_to_europe_and_scandinavia ) also operate ferries:

- Amsterdam (NL) to Newcastle (UK) which costs around £200/€235 EACH WAY (Newcastle to Pickering is 80ml/130Km). To drive from Amsterdam to Pickering via the Channel Tunnel is 530ml/840Km.

- Esjberg (DK) to Harwich (UK) from £232/€273 EACH WAY (Harwich to Pickering is 260ml/420K. To drive from Esjberg to Pickering via the Channel Tunnel is 955ml/1,540Km.

We will be approaching DFDS to discuss a discount in the near future.

I’ll let you work out the maths….!

*Priceless” - well that’s for you to decide - if you have the time and are camping then it’s slightly cheaper to drive. If you are working then that’s one day’s pay EACH WAY.
As for the hassle of travelling in a “classic car” on the UK Motorway network, well that’s your choice, but personally it’s a “Thank You”, but “No Thank You” as far as I am concerned.

** Cheaper if you opt for a season ticket which can be shared with other Citroen owners attending the ICCCR, (see http://www.poferries.com/tourist/content/pages/template/season_tickets_Season-Tickets.htm for full details).

Information on the UK motorway network and current an future predicted delays can be found here: http://www.highways.gov.uk/traffic/traffic.aspx

Alternately, you could arrange an itinery that takes in other locations in the UK:
- Cambridge
- Oxford
- National Motor Museum (Beauliue)
- Olympic sites
- Your choice of location

If you want us to plan an itinery for you just email us at .(JavaScript must be enabled to view this email address), with the Subject = “Itinery requested” and tell us where you want to go/what you want to see.

Questions?

Look at the information on the ICCCR Site (http://www.icccr2012.org.uk) or add a topic to this forum: http://www.citroen-forum.com/forums/viewforum/169/ and select “new Topic” - we will endevour to answer all your questions….

Only 15%?????

The discount we negotiated is 20%

....and it applies to all journeys made in August 2012 - so you can take a 4 week holiday and visit from the North of Scotland (John ‘o Groats) to the tip of Cornwall (Land’s End), and still have time to travel back via the coastal perimeter of Wales!

So, your are asking, what is the “catch”?

The only catch is that you are booking in 2011 for a ferry crossing in 2012, so P&O have your money for up to 12 months.
Tickets are available now on a “first come, first served” basis.

The Rotterdam to Hull boat (Pride of Rotterdam) can take up to 250 cars, and has 546 cabins. This figure assumes that they are also carrying 285 standard containers, so in theory the number of cars is limited by the number of cabins.

The Zeebrugge boat (Pride of Bruges)can carry up to 850 cars.

To book your tickets, just follow this link: http://www.poferries.eu/tourist/content/pages/iccc.html  to the “special” ICCCR booking page.

Oops!

I forgot to mention also that P&O are also offering a 10% on all ICCCR bookings made on the Calais to Dover crossings.

Finally, the Zeebrugge and Rotterdam discount of 20%, drops to 10% if you make your booking after a date in December 2011 - please check the terms and conditions.

PLEASE NOTE THAT THE TITLE OF THIS THREAD IS WRONG!

IT SHOULD READ “....to get to HARROGATE

Pickering was the original site we had planned to hold the event, which proved to be unsuitable in October 2010.

The location of the Harrogate site can be found here: http://goo.gl/maps/c56h

There have been problems with the P&O website, however these were resolved at 21:00, 03-OCT-11 and all is now up and running.

If you encounter any problems, lease email me and I will escalate to the P&O IT Support team.

On the Dutch side of this forum, plans are being made for the journey to Harrogate. Currently, a poll is being held to identify the ferry with which to cross the North-Sea. Once this is decided, further details such as the meeting place, the itinerary from the UK harbour to Harrogate and the breaks will be defined. One forum user has already come up with the slogan “ICCCR 2012 - let’s fill a ferry with Citroëns!”

OK,
So everyone in Holland needs to be aware that there is a cheaper price with P&O.

P&O offer “Season Tickets” which are a “book” of 5 tickets.
You can buy either 5 x Return Tickets or 5 x Single Tickets

See: http://www.poferries.com/tourist/content/pages/template/offers_season_tickets_the_season_tickets.htm

If you buy 5 x Singles, you can use them at any time up to 365 days after purchase in either direction (Hull(H) to Rotterdam(R) or Zebrugge (Z)).
You can also transfer them to anyone.
The only restriction is that you can only use 2 tickets from any “book of 5” on any one crossing
So if you buy 2 books (10 tickets in total) 2 people can travel out on day x from R and the spare ticket is used for a crossing on the same date from Z.

Z is 220 Km from R (See http://g.co/maps/uqa5m)

For the return journey you decide “who gets the short straw” and has to return via Z

All it needs is a bit of organisation….

The book of 5 singles is 495.00 £GBP = 565.014 €EUR for a vehicle, driver and passenger in a standard 2 berth cabin.

An addition passenger is £15/€17 and you get upgraded to a 4 berth cabin.

I understand that an article may soon be published in Traxion on this subject.

Thanks Mick, Rotterdam-Hull is currently leading the poll indeed. The ferry from Zeebruges arrives just 15 minutes after the one from Rotterdam, so this offers the opportunity to organise two starting points on the continent and a common journey from Hull onwards. We have already contacted P&O for a preliminary group booking with on-board dinner. However, IJmuiden-Newcastle is the runner-up in the poll, so this option can’t be ruled out either. Users of the international forum who are interested in traveling together with the Dutch and Belgians are kindly invited to participate in the poll.

OK,
So you also need to remember that my personal objective is to make this the most amazing Citroen event that will ever happen.

You will tell your grand children in their DS99’s that you were there in Yorkshire in 2012 when the concept and format of an ICCCR was given a new direction.

But seriously, I just followed the Link and had a read though the posts - my browser (Google chrome) automatically translates the dutch into English and most posts are understandable.

So I live in York and have an good knowledge of York and Yorkshire.
To the question “Should I travel to Newcastle and then down to Harrogate” the answer is “Yes, if you have the time”. I would come over a week earlier and have a holiday in Northumberland (between Newcastle and the Scottish Border) and then drive down to Harrogate via the Lake District (Cumbria) and then return to Rotterdam from Hull.

Alternately you could take a reverse route, from Hull drive to Harrogate (or come over on the 7th spend a day in York at the (FREE) Rail Museum or walking the City walls night in York then take in a “Ghost Tour” and it’s only 22km from York to Harrogate. Attend the ICCCR then head up into the Dales or up to the Lake District or up to Hadrians Wall (Built by the Romans to keep the sots in Scotland) and then back to Newcastle for the ferry back to Imujiden.

If you decide to take the Hook of Holland crossing to Harwich it’s a 240 Mile/390Km 4.5 hour drive to Harrogate.

As for the Olympics - all of the events are taking place within the M25 London ring road, except the sailing events that are at Portsmouth/Southampton. So provided that you don’t go in to London, you should be OK.

If anyone in the Dutch forum has any questions like “where can we eat in Hull” or “where should we go with 1 day to see York”, then just ask me and your Question and my answer will be added, anonymously, to our Website (we will have lots of visitors asking the same question).

So ask away!

Regards
Mick

Thanks, Mick! If we have further questions, we won’t hesitate. Also, we’ll be reporting the progress on the polling in the polder, such that international forum users could decide on joining the group on the continent or travelling to Harrogate individually.

Good advice for all visitors who own a retractable/folding caravan:

P&O charges different fares for “trailers” up to 1.80 m height and “caravans” up to 1.80 m height.

To make sure what my PARADISO is considered to be in the eyes of P&O, I mailed a picture to their customer service e-mail address and got the reply within a day: Mine is a “trailer”.

Lots of saved! Hooray! I just completed my booking.

pic434.jpg

I did print out the e-mail though, in case they will start a quarrel when I board in Rotterdam.
